Fact file 1: The kiswahili word for hippo is kiboko it also
means cane / whip.
Fact file 2: A hippo spends a lot of time underwater and are regarded as semi-aquatic animals. They are fast runners and can be aggressive. They are hairless unlike most animals and while they swim in groups they usually graze alone.This mighty animal is found near water bodies in many parts of Kenya. It grazes mainly at night. This mighty animal is found near water bodies in many parts of Kenya. It grazes mainly from dusk. Notice how this two hippos are together wih a crested crane, another bird and a monkey. This picture was taken at the Nature Trail (Haller Park) in Mombasa where they are trying to conserve them. |
