Reptiles play a vital role in maintaining the
balance of nature, and are believed to harbour secrets of enormous medicinal
value, snakes are abundant in many parts of Kenya. The common ones being
African Spiting Cobra. puff adder, black mouthed mamba, eatern green mamba, forest
cobra and African python. There are hundreds of other harmless snakes
and many are killed daily out of fear.

Only two creatures from the Jurassic period survive in Africa today: The crocodile and the tortoise. The tortoise still looks pretty much the same as it did 245 million years ago. Tip: when it comes to snake bites prevention is better than cure. When walking in the bush follow your guides instructions, wear boots, socks and long pants, avoid walking on long grass and look where you step especially in the evenings. |
